Close the Loop, Keep It Circulating

By passing our once-loved items on and giving them a second chance at life, we can each take action to help our environment and community.

At Don’t Throw Me, we want to help make shopping second-hand the first choice in Hong Kong!

What is the marketplace?

Buy and sell pre-loved items with ease

It's sustainable, convenient and cost-effective.  A win for you and your wallet!

Swap your items using DTM Credits

Our swap system is a simple way to exchange goods within our network of members.

Donate to a charity of your choice

Support your community by donating a percentage of swap proceeds to a DTM Charity Partner.

When usable items are thrown away, they contribute to the ever-growing amount of waste in our landfills every day. By recycling, repurposing, rehoming, and reusing, we can play our part in ensuring a better future for us all.

What is the Marketplace?

The DTM Marketplace is a peer-to-peer service that allows users to buy, sell, and swap items as well as donate their earned DTM Credits to our Charity Partners.

Do you have to be a registered member?

Yes, you must have a registered account to fully engage with the DTM Marketplace, which includes viewing product details, buying, selling, and swapping.

What is the difference between selling and swapping?

When you post an item for sale, the proceeds of your sale minus the transaction fees go directly into your personal payment account via Stripe, our third-party payment system.

When you post an item for swap, the DTM Credit proceeds are reflected in your DTM account balance. DTM Credits are the sole currency for swaps on the platform, giving users the ease of circulating items in our community.

You may also choose to support any of our Charity Partners by donating some of your earned Credits, which are redeemed for cash.

Once you have accumulated at least 500 DTM in your account, you may also redeem your Credits for cash.

Should I swap or sell?

This is entirely up to you! If you wish to support a local charity, then posting your item as a swap allows you to donate a percentage of your proceeds to one of our Charity Partners.

How many items can I post in the DTM Marketplace?

There is currently no limit on the amount of items you can post in the Marketplace, as long as these items are from your own household. DTM is a platform for individual users ONLY and operating a business on the platform is strictly prohibited.

What percentage of my transaction proceeds go to DTM?

For any item sold or swapped without a donation through our Marketplace, DTM collects a 10% transaction fee. For any item swapped with a donation to a DTM Charity Partner, DTM collects a 5% transaction fee. The DTM fee is not inclusive of any fees levied by Stripe.

How do I post an item?

Posting is simple! Just follow these steps:

  1. Sign In
  2. Click “Post Product”
  3. Choose your Transaction Type (Sell, Swap, Swap & Donate)
  4. Upload photo(s) of your item
  5. Enter your product details & price
  6. Edit Handover Preference
  7. Check listing details
  8. Click Post Product
Why do I need a Stripe Connect account?

A Stripe Connect account is only required if you wish to post an item for sale. All payments for sales and associated transaction fees are processed through Stripe, our third-party payment system.

What transaction fees will I have to pay?

For any sale, the seller pays DTM a 10% transaction fee based on the sales price of the item. In addition, the seller pays the associated Stripe service fee in accordance with Stripe’s Terms of Use. The total fees for DTM and Stripe are automatically deducted by Stripe while processing the transaction. The seller does not need to make a separate fee payment to DTM or Stripe.

For any swap without donation, the seller pays DTM a 10% transaction fee based on the assigned DTM Credit value of the item. This fee is automatically deducted and transferred to DTM. For a swap with donation, the seller pays DTM a fixed 5% transaction fee based on the assigned DTM Credit value of the item. The fee is fixed at 5% regardless of the percentage donated to the DTM Charity Partner.

When a user buys/tops up their DTM Credits, this payment  is processed through our third party payment provider, Stripe.  Stripe levies a credit card processing fee for this DTM Credit purchase. (see Terms & Conditions).

Who pays for shipping?

The buyer pays for any shipping fees. Hong Kong is a very interconnected city, so we recommend in-person handovers where possible, such as for smaller items. This results in a lower carbon footprint and you get to connect with a fellow member of the DTM community in person!

Why do I need DTM Credits to swap?

DTM Credits allow users to exchange goods on the platform.  After swapping your item, you can use the DTM Credits earned to obtain a swap item posted by a different user.

How can I redeem my DTM Credits for cash?

To redeem your DTM Credits for cash, you must have a minimum balance of 500 DTM.

To submit a redemption request, go to Profile > DTM Credits. Under “Redeem Your DTM Credits”, select the amount you wish to cash out and click “Redeem”. Once we receive your request, we will contact you to arrange payment directly. At DTM, safeguarding your information is paramount, which is why we do not store your payment details. The redemption will be completed within 1-2 weeks of receiving your request.

Why do I need to top up my Credits?

You can’t obtain swap items if you don’t have enough DTM Credits. When you check out, the system automatically reviews your account balance and will prompt you to top up if you don’t have enough Credits.

How do I donate my DTM Credits to charity?

The simplest way is to set the percentage of proceeds you wish to donate to your chosen Charity Partner when posting your swap item.

Do I have to include a donation when I post a swap item?

No. DTM added this feature as an easy and meaningful way for users to support local charities while exchanging goods. Our Charity Partners also benefit from direct donations of goods and cash. Check out our Donate page for more info on their immediate needs.

How does DTM manage and transfer donated DTM Credits to Charity Partners?

At the end of every month, each Charity Partner’s accumulated DTM Credit donations are redeemed for cash, which DTM transfers directly to the charity.
