Close the Loop, Keep It Circulating

By passing our once-loved items on and giving them a second chance at life, we can each take action to help our environment and community.

At Don’t Throw Me, we want to help make shopping second-hand your first choice!

When usable items are thrown away, they contribute to the ever-growing amount of waste in our landfills everyday. By rethinking their ‘end of life’ and recycling, repurposing, or giving them away, we can play our part in ensuring a better future for all.

Do I have to be a registered member to swap, sell or buy my items?

Yes; to engage with our platform, you’ll have to register for a DTM account.

Why does DTM apply a further discount on the items I swap?

At DTM, we want to encourage all our community members to keep items in circulation.  Swapping is an exchange of value between two parties, which is why we also want to retain the relative intrinsic value of each product. By applying a systematic and transparent discount to each posted item, we can ensure that each swap transaction is relatively equitable.

What percentage of my transaction goes to DTM?
  • On every completed Swap transaction, DTM collects a flat fee of 2 swap credits from the seller.
  • On every completed Sale transaction, DTM collects a flat fee of 10% of the sales price from the seller.
Who pays for shipping?

If both parties are based in Hong Kong, we recommend the more sustainable choice for the handover of goods: meeting at an agreed-upon public space like an MTR station or shopping mall. However, if this isn’t an option, the buyer/swapper pays for shipping.

Can I bargain?

All posted items on DTM are already heavily discounted, but negotiations can still take place between both parties involved. Any additional changes must be reflected in our system and the transaction must be completed on our platform, so that all changes are transparent and all parties are protected.

How do I cash out my swap points?

From your account, go to your swap credit balance and select ‘Transfer My Points’ – followed by ‘My Bank Account’. Enter your bank account details and select the amount you want before pressing ‘Transfer’.

To cash out your accumulated swap points:

  1. You must have a minimum balance of 500.
  2. Once you have selected your cash-out amount, you will be prompted to enter your bank account details to complete the transfer. At DTM, safeguarding your information is paramount. As such, we do not store/save your payment details.
How do I donate my swap points to a charity?

From your account, go to your swap credit balance and select ‘Transfer My Points’ – followed by the Charity Partner. Select the amount you want before pressing ’Transfer’.

How do I return an item?

All completed swap/sale transactions where both parties have signed off are final. The buyer/swapper has 48 hours after the item is received to return it. The transaction is considered complete after 48 hours.

Do I have to arrange for delivery of the items I donate?

We recommend that you connect with the Charity Partner directly for further instructions. Some may arrange for pick-ups, while others may require you to arrange for delivery.

Who do I contact if I wish to return an item?

Please connect with the poster/seller directly within 48 hours of receiving the item.

How do I decide which items to swap or sell?

This is entirely up to you. As a general rule, items for swapping tend to be of lower monetary value than items that are sold, but there are always exceptions to this rule.

Is there a limit on the number of items I can swap, sell or donate?

DTM is a platform for individual users only and operating a business on it is not allowed. You can post as many items as you wish, as long as they are from your household.

What will help my posted item sell or swap faster?

It is in your best interest to not only show your items in their best light, but also establish a reputation as a trustworthy seller/swapper. Here are some of our recommendations:

  • Use good lighting when taking photos of your item.
  • Wash, iron or steam your item prior to taking photos.
  • Model and/or style the item to add more colour and character to your photos.
  • Include additional photos focused on interesting details, damage, excessive wear or stains.
  • Write a thorough description for your item by including the item’s condition, colour, size, material, and measurements.
